The School community enjoyed a double bill this term with two excellent music concerts in the same week! The Large Ensembles Concert on Wednesday 11th October was followed by the Piano Foyer performance during lunchtime on Thursday 12th October; both shows offering opportunities to perform and to listen to some stunning pieces.
The Large Ensembles Concert feature some of the most significant musical groups at the School, the Orchestra and Senior Choir being two of the most popular of our 90+ co-curricular options. With a traditional composition involving a wide variety of instruments and vocal ranges within each group the pieces were anything but traditional! Senior Choir performed songs by Freddie Mercury (Don’t Stop Me Now) and Coldplay (Fix You), whilst the Orchestra kept it classical with pieces by Galante and Dvorak. Also on stage were LP Stings, LP Winds and LP Brass. Bringing together some of the lovely sounds of Vivaldi and Grieg.
The Piano Foyer concert in contrast featured nine soloists and the one instrument, the impeccable Yamaha Grand Piano in the Upper Foyer. The performances involved students from Year 8 to the Upper Sixth and a selection of musical compositions including some by Beethoven, Chopin and Mendelssohn.
